Voice of Latvia

Since its founding in 1993, vocal group PUTNI have premiered over 100 new pieces by Latvian and foreign composers. The programming of the ensemble weaves together traditional Latvian music, contemporary works, music of classical and early music composers, and elements of jazz and rock music. Folk music is an essential part of Latvian culture, which inspires many contemporary composers – Including STANISLAV YUDIN and HELENA WINKELMAN (Switzerland), who have created two different glorious programs especially for PUTNI.

Awakening of Birds (Folk / Jazz)

This bright and cheerful program is inspired by Latvian folk music and includes both arrangements of old Latvian songs and compositions of Latvian contemporary authors.

Spells and Charms from Ancient Times (Folk / Contemporary)

The charming ensembles CAMERATA VARIABILE BASEL (Switzerland) and PUTNI (Latvia) invite you to an archaic sound ritual – an extensive work by Swiss composer Helena Winkelman, based on both Latvian and Swiss ancient folk texts. Eight strong and pure women voices, medieval Swiss folk instruments, various percussions, elements of Swiss folk dance, jazz, contemporary music and Latvian a cappella songs are organically intertwined in the glorious flow of images and moods.
